Steve Jobs

Directed by: Danny Boyle
Starring: Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen
Rating: 4/5

Following the 2013 train wreck that was Jobs, starring Ashton Kutcher, the world needed a movie that accurately portrayed the man who developed one of the most successful technological companies in the world. Steve Jobs did just that. I was extremely skeptical about the run time, having an incredibly short attention span I didn't know if I could sit through a movie that lasted over two hours especially if it was anything like the previous tragedy, however this wasn't an issue. Fassbender's performance kept me entranced in the film the whole way through. He successfully portrayed the extraordinary man that was Steve Jobs. Fassbender was able to satisfy a variant of different emotions, from anger, to compassion, to excitement, he never failed to hit the mark. I think his performance was outstanding.

I really enjoyed the way this movie was set up. It was split in three separate time frames, all of them being different launch events for different inventions Jobs had his names tied too. Each event came with it's own conflicts and kept the story interesting. What I absolutely adored about the different frames is that each one was shot with different cameras to portray the time differences. The first sequence was shot with 16mm film, the second on widescreen 35mm film, and the third made use of high definition digital media. I really appreciated this technique and it's definitely visible to the eye even if you're not a cinema buff, it's another small touch that makes this movie special.

It's unfortunate that this movie flopped in the box office because it truly was a great film. It didn't sugar coat his life, it showed that Jobs was a flawed human being but it demonstrated how amazing he was at what he did. This movie had moments of comic relief as well as moment of intensity and conflict. It was fast paced and easy to keep up with. An incredibly well done biopic of this mans life. I'd recommend a watch to just about anyone. Not only did it have a strong leading actor, but he had strong support beneath him. Kate Winslet did an incredible job in her roll as Joanna Hoffman, Jobs' marketing executive. She was crucial in keeping the movie on track and she killed it. She was equal to Jobs in many ways and showed the importance of women in industries, a strong female roll is always a plus. Definitely check this movie out if you haven't already, it's worth the watch.
